11.15.05 Built-In Look Solutions for The Woman in White |
View>> |
| Description: Look Solutions’ Unique hazers, Viper NT fog generators and a Power-Tiny battery-powered fog generator have reprised their role from the London production for the new Broadway musical, The Woman in White.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Woman in White, which opens on November 17th at the Marquis Theatre, New York City, is the story of how Walter Hartright’s life is changed forever after a chance encounter with a mysterious woman, dressed in white. The show has an enormous scope with over 60 locations which are represented by projections onto moving scenery.
Paul Pyant lit the original London production of The Woman in White, with Associate Lighting Designer David Howe tasked with recreating Pyant’s design for Broadway. “The lighting and atmosphere of the show has to be precisely controlled because of the projections,” remarked Howe on why Look Solutions’ machines were chosen for The Woman in White. “Previous experience told us the Look Solutions machines were quiet, compact and had no fluid compatibility issu | | Date Posted: November 15 2005 |

11.15.05 Look Solutions’ New Low Fogger |
View>> |
| Description: Look Solutions unveiled the prototype of their new Low Fogger on the Look Solutions Booth #1275 at this year’s ETS-LDI trade show in Orlando, Florida.
The new Low Fogger consists of a 2,000W fog machine and chilling chamber in a single, compact, road-worthy housing. The Low Fogger housing measures just 20 inches x 20 inches x 12 inches. An external dewar of liquid carbon dioxide is required to cool the fog from the Low Fogger. Dewars of CO2 are easily obtainable in any major town or city. “This is a great new addition to the Look Solutions range,” remarked Nathan Kahn of Look Solutions USA, Ltd. “Low fog is so much more convenient to use than dry ice – even after factoring in the dewar of CO2. This is an exciting new arena for us and we are looking forward to seeing what people think of the Low Fogger.”
The head of R&D from Look Solutions in Germany will be on hand at both ETS-LDI in Orlando, Florida, and at IAAPA in Atlanta, Georgia, to take comments and suggestions for inclusion in the final design o | | Date Posted: November 15 2005 |

10.18.05 Visions Lighting chalks up another successful Reventón |
View>> |
| Description: For the third year running, Los Angeles-based Visions Lighting helped create the party atmosphere for Spanish-language radio station “Super Estrella’s” annual Reventón concert at The Pond in Anaheim. Working with Reventón’s lighting designer, Chris Reade, Visions Lighting erected an intricate overhead truss structure that dominated to look of the event. The lighting rig itself included 32 Martin Professional MAC 2000 fixtures, 19 Atomic 3000 strobes, 24 High End Studio Color fixtures, 24 Studio Beam fixtures and 20 Molefays. Visions Lighting, worked around the clock around the clock for three days to make Reventón happen. Each of the nine Latin artists playing at this year’s Reventón, several of whom had their own lighting designer, played anywhere from a 20 to 50 minute set. This meant that each act required not only significant variation in the lighting of their own set, but also variation from the other acts appearing throughout the six-hour extravaganza. “It’s difficult to describe just what Reventón is like for someone who's never experienced it," remarked Todd Roberts, owner of Visions Lighting. "The audience is dressed to the nines; everyone is dancing in the aisles between acts and it's just this big party--not to mention that some of the biggest names in Latin music are playing." This year's sold-out show featured performances by Juanes, Alejandro Fernandez, and Julieta Venegas, to name a few.
Reventón was also one of the first major events where Visions Lighting had used its new Pig Systems Wholehog III console. "Chris (Reade) is very used to the Hog II," notes Roberts, "but it really did not take him long to settle into using the new board. He used it on a small show and then was comfortable enough to use it on Reventón." For Reventón, Visions Lighting supplied the Wholehog III console with a DMX Processor and a Playback Wing.
Visions Lighting continued its work Latin American artists when it supplied the lighting equipment for another major event in the Spanish music calendar; the Marc Anthony, Alejandro Fernandez, and Chayanne tour of the US at the end of August. | | Date Posted: October 18 2005 |

10.04.05 Mike Falconer.net Podcast |
View>> |
| Description: Industry writer and commentator Mike Falconer has launched a podcast service of audio recordings – “Mike Falconer's Entertainment Technology World and Other Stories."
A podcast is a broadcast of audio recordings, in MP3 format, that is downloaded to your computer on a regular basis from the Internet. Once an MP3 file is downloaded, you can listen to it on your computer or your portable MP3 player –such as Apple's iPod – hence podcast and podcasting. Podcasts can be received directly by several software-based music players or by using a podcasting utility.
“The plan is to make a couple of articles available each month in an audio format,” says Falconer. “Like the text archive I maintain on mikefalconer.net, the articles that will be part of the podcast will have been previously published; however, there may also be the occasional unpublished article.” The individual MP3 files are also available for download from mikefalconer.net for users who do not wish to use the podcast.
